Mother’s Day is coming up soon and to honor all of the wonderful Mom’s here in the Valley, I am offering “Mommy and Me” Mini Sessions on Sunday, April 25th in Berwick.
Mini sessions will be photographed in black and white with a simple backdrop. They will be 20 minutes long and done indoors so that we don’t have to worry about bad weather. There will be room for 10-12 Moms with bookings every half hour starting at 10am and the last appointment at 3:30pm. Obviously, these sessions are just for Mom and her kiddos but Daddy’s are welcome to tag along to watch/help. Mommy’s-to-be and Gramma’s are also welcome!
About a week after your session, you will be provided with a password to your own private proofing gallery where you can view between five and ten proofs from your session and order prints if you wish. Your choice of five web sized images is included in the cost of your session. The cost for your session will be $50. Session fees are due at the time of booking and payable by paypal or email money transfer. Although they are non-refundable, session fees can be applied to another session within a month of the session date if you cancel with 48 hours notice**.
Download a PDF copy of the flyer (Moms, feel free to print it out and stick it to the fridge, or email it to your hubby or boyfriend as a not so subtle hint as to what you want for Mother’s Day! lol)
Call Krystal at 679-8216 or email photography@krystalpineo.com to book your session. Spaces are first come first serve, hope to see you there!
EDITED TO ADD: You can also join the Mommy & Me Mini Session Event on Facebook to book your session. There you will find a list of all the times that are still available. Feel free to invite your friends to help spread the word!
**subject to session availability
That’s right, I am looking for outgoing and unique dogs to model for some advertisements.
Dog parents must be willing to sign a simple model release allowing the images to be used for advertising and be available to travel to the Coldbrook/Kentville/New Minas area for an outdoor portrait session with their dog the weekend of April 10th and 11th.
Applying dogs don’t need to be purebred; dogs of all sizes, shapes, colors, and ages will be considered as long as they meet the requirements. Dogs should be good with other dogs and strangers, outgoing, well behaved, have lots of personality, and be trusted off-leash for short periods.
To submit your dog for consideration, send their picture along with the following information to photography@krystalpineo.com. (Just copy and paste it into your email and fill in the blanks)

If you are submitting an application for your puppies, you should be available evenings during the week of April 12 to 16 for your session.
Applications will be accepted until April 1st and accepted doggies will be contacted by April 4th. Dog parents will receive a free outdoor mini-session (30 minutes long) for their pup and five web-sized (400px by 600px) digital images. You will be able to purchase additional images or prints if you want, but it is not required.
I can’t wait to meet your dogs!
Gather together some of your best girlfriends and update your Facebook profile pictures!
More and more we’re connecting through social media, so why not look your best to all of your old and new online friends? Try something new for girls night and throw a Facebook Party!
Here’s how it works:
Invite over between four and ten of the girls, put out some snacks and drinks, and enjoy a fun photo session – simple! Each of the ladies will get 10-15 minutes to shine in front of the camera and at the end we’ll get everybody together for a group shot!
For only $30, you will get images that you will be proud to share on the internet AND a 5×7 print (host’s choice) of everyone together.
It doesn’t get much better than that!
A few days after your Facebook party, all of the images will be uploaded to Krystal Pineo Photography’s Facebook page. Each guest will be emailed a link so they can tag themselves and drag the images to their desktop to save them to use on their social networking profile!
Call (902) 679-8216 or email photography@krystalpineo.com to start planning your Facebook Party!

Mother’s Day and Father’s Day may be in May and June, but it’s not too early to starting think about them. Plus, I’ll be honest, I’m just too excited about a new product I will be offering especially for Moms and Dads (or Grandparents) to wait! They’re called “Kid Quote Albums” and are a 20 page hard cover book that is customized to be all about Mom or Dad from the child’s perspective.
When you book a session for the Kid Quote Albums, you will be given a list of about thirty questions to ask your child or children about the person who will be receiving the book and asked to email it back to me so that I can plan some of the shots to match up with the answers. We don’t often ask a child’s perspective on a lot of things, and the answers you will get will range from shocking to downright hilarious. Whatever your child answers, you should write down – try not to prompt them to say certain things or change their answers. When you look back, you’re going to want to remember what they really thought and not what you wanted them to say. If your daughter says Daddy’s favourite person is Big Bird, so be it!
For the session I will ask you bring whatever you can that belongs to the person who will be receiving the book so we can incorporate those items into the pictures. Try to bring anything that came up in one of your child’s answers as well as things that this person uses often. Think of their hobbies and what they do for a living and you should get plenty of ideas. I can help if you get stuck.
The pictures from your session will then be matched up with a question and answer from the child and printed in a beautiful book to be given as a gift (Yes, extra copies of the same book can be ordered at a discount if you end up not wanting to give it away!). I bet that whoever is lucky enough to receive your book as a gift has never seen anything like it before – if the gift is for Mom, I wouldn’t rule out tears when she opens it.
Kid Quote Album pricing is all-inclusive, meaning that everything needed to create your album is included. The price you see includes a beautiful 20 page 10×10 hard cover coffee table album as well as the cost of a 1 hour studio or 2 hour outdoor Classic Child Session and all the images used in the book on a disc (up to 20). The total value of the package is $775, but you’ll only pay $399!
Want both books? Do both the Mothers Day and the Fathers Day session at once and you’ll save 50% off the cost of your second album and get both books plus the session for $599.
Coffee table albums are made in Canada and have library certified binding with a stitched and glued spine. Albums feature a custom designed photo wrap hardcover using an image from your session. Text pages are printed on 115lb silk (matte) or gloss stock.
I will be booking Mother’s Day Album sessions during the month of February and Father’s Day Album sessions during the month of March. Space is limited, so book early!
Thank you for making this contest so successful and congratulations to the winners! I will definitely be doing this contest again later on in the year, not quite sure exactly when though just yet. If you want to be notified when the contest will run again, sign up for my monthly newsletter.
Each family that participated but didn’t win one of the prizes listed below will be receiving a $25 gift certificate good for print/product purchases. You will all be receiving your gift certificates over the next couple of days. Emails will be delivered to the inbox of the email address you used when you sent your entry. I have to apologize to my readers as I’ve been neglecting my blog lately. There’s quite a bit going on with the business lately with lots of promotions and new projects on the go, plus I’m just starting to settle into the New Year and get back into the rhythm of things after the Holidays.
Krystal Pineo Photography will soon be becoming Krystal Pineo Studios as I branch out a bit to include more design work. Don’t worry, nothing is going to change on the photography side of my business; I will still be offering everything I do now but I’ll be adding some extra design services. The biggest change is that I will be offering personal and business websites (which I am very excited about!) but I will also be offering products for your business like logos, business cards and advertisements as well as products for personal projects like wedding invitations and products for baby/bridal showers and birthdays. I’m hoping to officially launch the site and make the change in February but I am accepting design client’s on a waitlist now for the month of February. Email design@krystalpineo.com for a custom quote on your project idea. I will keep you up to date on the progress and post a link to the site when I’m getting ready to launch it.
I’ve just started working on a project that has the potential to be really big with another Valley business. I can’t post the details yet because we’re still planning everything but I’m too excited about it to not mention it at all. Stay tuned for an update with all of the info!
My new project for Valley high school students, “Ditch the Cap and Gown“, is getting underway but I’m still looking for Models. If you’re in grade eleven or twelve, love to have your picture taken, want some free pictures, and would like to make a few bucks and maybe win an iPod touch check out www.DitchTheCapAndGown.com for all the details. Pass the link along to anyone you know who might be interested.
I’ve also got a contest going on my Facebook Fan Page for parents and their children. At last count, there are 20 entries and some absolutely adorable kids. Head on over to check it out and give your vote to one of the cuties!
Here are the details of the contest:
Every parent thinks they have the cutest kid on the planet, so here’s your chance to show your adorable kiddos to the world and have a chance to win some cool prizes at the same time.
So what’s the deal?
Krystal Pineo Photography is having a contest for their Facebook Fans. You submit a picture (that you took, no professional pics please), and it gets posted on Facebook for the Fans of Krystal Pineo Photography to vote on. At the end of January, the picture with the most votes will win a photography prize package worth over $275. The winner will be announced February 1st after the votes have been tallied.
The prize is worth how much? What does that include?
The prize package is valued at $278 and includes a 1 hour studio or 2 hour outdoor family portrait session in Kings County, NS as well as a print package including 1-11×14, 2-8×10’s, 4-5×7’s and 50-3.5×2.5 miniatures.
This prize package must be redeemed in the month of February 2010.
Awesome, how do I enter?
First of all, you have to be a Fan of Krystal Pineo Photography, then simply email a picture of your child that was taken in the last 3 months to contest@krystalpineo.com along with your full name, your child’s first name and age (last names will not be posted online), and your phone number. Entries must contain all of this information to be valid. Your child’s picture will then get uploaded to Facebook where other Fans can vote for it. Easy as pie!
When you submit your photo, you are giving Krystal Pineo Photography permission to display it online. (Remember, without permission it can’t be posted for people to vote on it!)
Okay, I submitted my photo – now how do I vote?
Once your image has been uploaded to the Fan page, all you have to do is comment “Vote” on the picture you want to vote for. You may vote for as many pictures as you like, but only one vote per person will count for each picture. That means voting ten times for the same picture still only counts as one vote, so don’t do it! You’re welcome to vote for your own picture if you want to. Only Fans of Krystal Pineo Photography are allowed to vote (Facebook’s rules), so when you send your friends and family to vote and increase your chances of winning, be sure to tell them to become a Fan or they won’t be able to comment to vote!

As I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve been working on something new for Valley high school students. The new site is up and you can have a look if you’d like, I’ve posted a quick screenshot below. Go to www.ditchthecapandgown.com

It’s hard to believe that 2009 will be over in a matter of hours now, I always look back at the end of the year and wonder where the time went – it doesn’t seem fair that it goes by so quickly! I just want to thank all of my clients, friends and family for everything in 2009. I took a big leap leaving my regular job and started working at my photography full time at the end of September and everyone has been so supportive (especially my husband, thanks hun!). The bulk of my 2009 clients booked me this fall after I switched to full time photographer, and you guys made my first few months awesome! Thank you all so much, from the bottom of my heart. I enjoyed meeting every one of you and working with your families and I hope to see you all again in 2010.
I also want to take this opportunity to remind you all that submissions for Giving is Awesome are due by midnight tonight as I will be announcing the winner here tomorrow. I’ve gotten some truly touching stories from people who obviously love their friends and family so much! If you know someone who you would like to nominate the win $600 worth of custom photography, go here for all the details.
2010 is going to be my first full calendar year as a full time photographer, and I’ve got lots of cool stuff planned for you! There are lots of promotions, sales and special events planned throughout the year which I will be announcing here on the blog. At some point I hope to create a studio newsletter that will be sent out 3 or 4 times a year to let everyone know what’s going on and what the best deals are, but at this point it’s a matter of finding the time to do it! It’s on my 2010 resolution list.
Speaking of New Year’s Resolutions, how many years has it been since you’ve had a family picture taken? Not one of just the kids, but one that actually includes Mom and Dad too! Time flies by so fast that I’m offering $75 off family portrait sessions to anyone who books for the month of January and tells me that it’s their New Year’s resolution to have a family photo taken in 2010! Get started on that list early, and get this one scratched off first – I just made it easy for you!
Also in the next couple of weeks I will be announcing an awesome opportunity for Valley high school students as I launch a teen model search. You guys will have a chance to get some free pictures, earn a few dollars and maybe win a really cool prize at the end of the school year…. not to mention a chance to model and see your face on advertisements around the Valley! All of the details are coming soon, I’m just finishing up a new blogsite to promote everything before I post all the details. I can’t wait to share it with you though, Valley high schools have never seen anything like what I will be offering! This is BIG and I’m so excited!! (Bet you can’t tell?! lol)
I’m going to wrap this post up before I write you all a novel because I could keep writing forever (you should have seen my Christmas letter, it was 10 typed pages long!) All the best to you and your families, I hope 2010 is filled with good surprises and lots of love. And because I hate to make a post without a picture, here’s a little something that I hope makes you smile as much as I do when I see it!
