Morgan & Makayla

Morgan & Makayla

You might remember Morgan from the “Baby, You Oughta Be In Pictures” contest from January. She came in second with 516 votes! Well, today I got to meet her and her family and the girls were so well behaved that we spent two solid hours snapping pictures.

First of all, I have to share my absolute FAVORITE image from today – one of my favorites ever actually. This is Morgan. If you can believe it, the only thing I did to this picture is convert it to black and white. I didn’t retouch her eyes at all, they actually are that spectacular. Have a look for yourself….

Morgan turned five months old today (Happy 5 Months btw!) and she was so so good. I could have just taken her home with me! Here are a few more of her in color so you can see those baby blues in all their glory.

Morgan’s older sister Makayla was so much fun! She loved getting dressed up in the tutus that I brought and was a very good little model. Here she is doing her thing for the camera.

Seriously, how cute is she?

Makayla was a big help making her sister giggle and getting her attention – she was even nice enough to take a picture of Morgan and Mommy for me. Here’s Makayla’s shot…

Not too bad eh? It lacks a little bit of focus, but I think you can tell what she was going for. :)

Not long after Makayla showed off her camera skills, poor little Morgan was getting pretty sleepy. This is the last picture I took today, all three – Mommy, Makayla and Morgan – snuggled in with Morgan sound asleep!

Thanks for a great session ladies!

Today I got to meet three beautiful little boys and their Mom (their Mom owns Wee Piggies and Paws btw)

We started off inside with the studio, but the weather today was so so so nice that we ended up outdoors. I shot outside for 45 minutes or so in a t-shirt, I couldn’t believe it! We must be in for one heck of a storm sometime soon because Mother Nature has been far too nice to us the past little bit. Anyway, on to the pictures! This is Silas :)

Studio first…..

He sure loved that blankie! Mommy and the boys had a special name for it but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was. I’m sure it’ll come to me as soon as I finish posting.

Then we headed outdoors….

…. where Silas discovered DIRT! Since he was too small before winter, this was his first experience with grass and dirt.

He made sure he got a good taste of it too! lol

Doesn’t he have the most gorgeous eyes?!

And beautiful LONG eyelashes too!

Last of all is a picture for Daddy. Daddy has a big Kubota tractor (I have to admit I had tractor envy for a minute, I sure love our little Kubota but his was REALLY nice!) and Silas is going right along on what looks to be a John Deere. I’m sure it won’t be much longer and he’ll be wanting to drive Dad’s. :)

Thanks for a fun session! I hope you like your pictures.

Remember Whitten? He won a free portrait session/print package in the Baby, You Oughta Be In Pictures contest last month and today I got to go meet him. Apparently Whitten is normally a very smiley little man, but today all he seemed to want to show me was his serious side. We tried everything to get him to smile from toys to wet facecloths – at one point I had four people standing behind me trying to coax a smile out of him! Despite the fact that he was quite stingy with the giggles we still managed to get some great pictures. Mom, here are two of the ones that I didn’t show you on the camera today. I hope you like them, the rest will be ready soon!

This first one totally cracks me up! I dare you to look and not smile – I don’t think it’s possible.

And, one with his eyes OPEN and a smile!

Ditch the Cap and Gown | Raegan!

January 21, 2010  |  All Posts, Images, News & Announcements  |  No Comments

I’m very proud to introduce Raegan as the first Model for my new project – Ditch the Cap and Gown. If you haven’t heard about it, Ditch the Cap and Gown aims to provide High School students with the opportunity to have graduation portraits that showcase who they are. As the name implies, there are no caps and gowns – just awesome pictures full of personality. As part of this new project, I’m offering teens a chance to model. As a model, they have a special discount code that allows anyone they refer to save $25 off the cost of their session. Models get paid 10% on all firsthand referalls and 5% on all secondhand referrals, plus they can earn an iPod Touch (or enter to win one), and get free pictures of themselves and their friends.

Raegan was the first one brave enough to sign up, and I think she’s a perfect fit. I’m happy to have her.

Click on her picture below to see a few images from her test session tonight. If you know someone who might be interested in modeling, or you might be interested yourself, check out www.ditchthecapandgown.com for all of the information on the Model program.

Meet Raegan

Happy New Year, Thanks, and January Promos all rolled into one!

It’s hard to believe that 2009 will be over in a matter of hours now, I always look back at the end of the year and wonder where the time went – it doesn’t seem fair that it goes by so quickly! I just want to thank all of my clients, friends and family for everything in 2009. I took a big leap leaving my regular job and started working at my photography full time at the end of September and everyone has been so supportive (especially my husband, thanks hun!). The bulk of my 2009 clients booked me this fall after I switched to full time photographer, and you guys made my first few months awesome! Thank you all so much, from the bottom of my heart. I enjoyed meeting every one of you and working with your families and I hope to see you all again in 2010.

I also want to take this opportunity to remind you all that submissions for Giving is Awesome are due by midnight tonight as I will be announcing the winner here tomorrow. I’ve gotten some truly touching stories from people who obviously love their friends and family so much! If you know someone who you would like to nominate the win $600 worth of custom photography, go here for all the details.

2010 is going to be my first full calendar year as a full time photographer, and I’ve got lots of cool stuff planned for you! There are lots of promotions, sales and special events planned throughout the year which I will be announcing here on the blog. At some point I hope to create a studio newsletter that will be sent out 3 or 4 times a year to let everyone know what’s going on and what the best deals are, but at this point it’s a matter of finding the time to do it! It’s on my 2010 resolution list.

Speaking of New Year’s Resolutions, how many years has it been since you’ve had a family picture taken? Not one of just the kids, but one that actually includes Mom and Dad too! Time flies by so fast that I’m offering $75 off family portrait sessions to anyone who books for the month of January and tells me that it’s their New Year’s resolution to have a family photo taken in 2010! Get started on that list early, and get this one scratched off first – I just made it easy for you!

Also in the next couple of weeks I will be announcing an awesome opportunity for Valley high school students as I launch a teen model search. You guys will have a chance to get some free pictures, earn a few dollars and maybe win a really cool prize at the end of the school year…. not to mention a chance to model and see your face on advertisements around the Valley! All of the details are coming soon, I’m just finishing up a new blogsite to promote everything before I post all the details. I can’t wait to share it with you though, Valley high schools have never seen anything like what I will be offering! This is BIG and I’m so excited!! (Bet you can’t tell?! lol)

I’m going to wrap this post up before I write you all a novel because I could keep writing forever (you should have seen my Christmas letter, it was 10 typed pages long!) All the best to you and your families, I hope 2010 is filled with good surprises and lots of love. And because I hate to make a post without a picture, here’s a little something that I hope makes you smile as much as I do when I see it!

SNEAK PEEK | The Sentis Family | New Minas, Nova Scotia Child & Family Photographer

December 2, 2009  |  All Posts, Images, Sneak Peeks  |  No Comments

Another family session tonight with four kids! It’s looking like big families are coming back in style, I love it!

First of all I want to say that choosing a couple of images to post for this sneak peek was an incredibly difficult task. It was litterally impossible for me to just pick two or three, so I picked a whole bunch! There are just too many to choose from.

I had lots of fun tonight, lots of giggles and smiles… I love sessions like that. I’m gonna jump right in and post some pictures, I’m so excited for you to see these Amy and Chris!

I’ll start off with what may be my new favorite family picture, just look at little L perched up on the back of the chair!

We were lucky enough to have Grammie to be in the pictures as well.

This is I. (I know that sounds like totally terrible grammar but I don’t want to post the kids’ first names because their last name is in the title so I use their first initial instead. I is her first initial.)

Sentis-6109

Oldest sister E.

Middle sister G.

And here’s L. (L and I are twins) L didn’t want to lay down on her belly for a picture that would match the ones I took of her sisters so we had to be a little creative. If you look very closely, you’ll notice that the fabric under L’s elbows is different that the fabric under her sisters. That’s because L is on top of her Daddy, and that’s Daddy’s shirt! We told her to lie on his back and squish him, and to make it authentic Daddy was nice enough to provide some groaning sounds to get a few giggles!

Here’s E and G, the big sisters (and such good models!)

Sentis-6241

I couldn’t resist posting this one of I. (bad grammar again, lol) I think she has three headbands on, but the thick purple one is blocking the view of one of them.

Last of all, is a picture of Little Miss Gigglebutt L who obviously thinks her Daddy is the funniest man alive. This is definitely another one of my new favorite images.

So that’s it, I really hope you like your sneak peek Amy, Chris and Grammie. I had a lot of fun with you all tonight and I hope we get a chance to do it again!

SNEAK PEEK | The Melnick Family | New Minas, Nova Scotia Child & Family Photographer

Another family session, and two more beautiful children today. Aren’t I lucky that everyone I photograph is so darn cute?

Anyway, I just wanted to post a couple of pictures of K & A from today. Their Mom had everything all planned out, complete with costumes and props. Lobsters, fairies, bumblebees, cheerleaders, ballerinas and teddy bears… oh my! We had a lot of fun today and I learned a few things too! For example, little sisters will cry when you try to “cook” them in a lobster pot (who would have guessed?!), and that Daddy keeps K’s smiles in his pocket! ;)

This is the first scene Mom planned for the girls. K is the chef, and poor little A is the unlucky lobster! Won’t A just love this picture when she’s 16 years old and bringing her first boyfriend home to meet Mom and Dad?! lol Seriously though, how cute is that lobster costume!

Next up we have sweet little K dressed up in her fairy costume giving me one of her beautiful smiles.

Lastly, here’s little teddy bear A after a quick 20 minute power nap. We were going to try to get a few of her sleeping, but she woke up and was good to go. I think this is one of my new favorite pictures!

So there you go Mom and Dad (and Grammie & Grampie), I hope you liked your sneak peek. I have tons of cute pictures to process and I can’t wait for you to see the rest!
